Three Women Portrait Photographers ($11,free member rate)
Instructor: Gina Murtaugh
This seminar will introduce the work of three women photographers--Julia Margaret Cameron, Diane Arbus, and Rita Hammond. Specific focus will be on their subjects, historical context, formal conventions, and breaks with convention. Each photographer has created significant bodies of work that derive from their private lives and reflect on human fears and longing. Participants will have the opportunity to see the current Light Work exhibition of Rita Hammond's photographs and engage in a brief writing exercise. Instructor Gina Murtagh is a freelance photographer, curator, and arts educator residing in Utica, NY.

Scanning Techniques ($66, $33 member rate)

This workshop will give students an in-depth understanding of the scanning process. Learn to convert film into digital format by scanning slides, negatives, and photographs on our scanners. Topics covered include scanner types and operation, precise resolution computation relating to output choice, and scanner vs. imaging software controls. Students will improve the quality of their images by learning basic corrective techniques: sharpness, contrast, color, and the removal of imprefections in the
original image. |

This workshop will give students the opportunity to master the specifics of digital imaging and file resolution. In discussing working digitally, the class will look at file formats such as Raw files and JPEG formats, and how to use layer adjustments. Participants should have a basic knowledge of photography and digital skills.
